Don’t wait until next year: celebrate it every day!

Why are we celebrating New Year’s Eve? Sure, because one year ends and a new one begins. Somehow, people have agreed, that today is a special day and tomorrow too. The last day of the year. The first day of the new year. An old chapter ends, a new section begins. Is not that the same every day, every hour, every minute? What if we celebrated each day like this and welcome the new?

My yoga teacher once told a nice story, maybe you know this legend from an old yogi: He lived in a nice big house. One day, when he returned from a trip, this house was ablaze. What did he do? Instead of mourning or moaning, he sat down in front of the flames and warmed his hands to it. He knew that if he clung to the house, which was now no longer, he would only suffer. So he saw the situation as it is, took the fire and made the best of it.

How many fires did you experience in the last year? And are you still holding on to the burned house or are you warming your hands on the flames? Life is constant change, constant transformation. That’s what makes it so wonderful. And not just on New Year’s Eve.

Honestly: Good intentions for the new year have never been my thing. But this year I have one – for tomorrow and the day after tomorrow and the day after  …: Welcome every day to new and do not wait until next year.
